Introducing a new extended trip to the Waiotira junction, this is a trip that has not been available to the public for over 50 years.
The trip transverses along the main trunk line north of Waiotira, which is approximately 40km’s South/West of Whangarei. You will travel over 21 bridges and through 2 tunnels, with the longest being 638 meters. Travel through native bush, farm land, forestry blocks and other interesting places which you can’t see anywhere but by rail.
The trip is 98km’s return and takes approximately 7 to 8 hours (return). We will supply tea and coffee as part of your ticket. Bring your own lunch. There are 2 toilet stops on the way.
This journey is the second longest privately run rail journey in New Zealand.

This trip is not suitable for children due to the journey length, but for the little ones we recommend our 2.5 hour trip to Tangowahine.
Prices:
2 or 3 person trip is $240 per person*
4+ person trip is $190 per person
If there is only one person booking, please contact us and we can put you on a waiting list to go with others.
*If you are a small group of 2 or 3 people there is the option to join a waiting list to go with a larger group (of 4+ people) and receive the group discount.
