Introducing an exciting new trip to the Omana Rail Station, this is a trip that has not been available to the public for over 50 years.

The trip transverses along the rail corridor from Dargaville to Omana, which is approximately 30km’s South/West of Whangarei. You will travel over 18 bridges and through 1 tunnel which is 638 meters. Travel beside native bush, farm land, forestry blocks and other interesting places which you can’t see anywhere but by rail.

The trip is 78km’s return and takes approximately 5.5 hours. We will supply tea and coffee and morning tea as part of your ticket. Bring your own lunch and water. There are 2 toilet stops on the way.

This journey is the second longest privately run rail journey in New Zealand.

What to bring:

  • Descent foot wear

  • Warm and wet weather clothing (as the weather can be changeable)

  • Water

  • Lunch

  • and don't forget your camera
